I’ve found that, when using Safari/MacOS it is not possible to share a specific window. All I can do is share an entire display, which seems to be the display where the browser window is, so the result is the infinite window-within-window effect. If I use Firefox I get presented with a list of displays and application windows that I can select from.
Safari has only recently got the screensharing functionality that BBB is using in Version 13. My bet would be that Safari just has no UI/function to select a window and only supports sharing the whole screen.
Yesterday we had a meeting with @Shaun and he ran into problems with Screensharing through Chrome/Chromium: as it was the first time to use this server (de.meet.coop) for screensharing, he had to give permissions and Chrome required him to restart the browser. Here my little testing at my desktop pc.
Hi @Shaun,
was good meeting again yesterday. But awkward to see your struggle with sharing a screen. Now I’m aware that some computers struggle with BBB screensharing, as it’s current set up is quite heavy loaded for many computers. But that’s no excuse, so I wanted to replicate your experience. But at my end it worked well. Here goes
- I launched my Chromium browser (Version 102.0.5005.115 (Official Build) snap (64-bit))
- I didn’t do screensharing from the de.meet.coop server yet, so I had to give the browser permission to share the screen
- then I could choose which a) window, b) Chromium tab or c) entire screen I wanted to share
- I chose a Chromium tab and it worked perfectly
Then I reset the permissions and did it again, and yes, all the same, worked without failure.
Now I was surprised that I couldn’t choose to share the Firefox browser window I have opened as my default browser. Nor a slide deck in LibreOffice I have open as well. So maybe Chromium has some limitations? Or the current BBB screenshare implementation experienced through Chromium?
I do know that in the latest BBB release candidate there’s a change in the backend software that provides a much more lightweight screensharing option. hopes are that that will make life much better in this aspect.
